A design competition project held by Indonesia University (UI) for the new student housing complex, which comprises 4 towers of student units and 2 towers of service apartment.
To create something distinguishable yet contextual with the surrounding of the campus, which located on a vast lush green area of a satellite city Depok.
In order to preserve the greenery yet keeping it in an orderly way, the analogy of "the trees of the orchard" is taken.
Trees of an orchard are usually big enough to form canopies to shade the area it cover. They also have flowing yet orderly created space below their canopies, enabling people to circulate freely.
Thus, they provide men with not only the harvest, but also the comfort provided by their own existence.
These are the character taken and applied to the design.
The towers are raised to give the public (especially pedestrians) an access into the site through the podium level which is designed with an atmosphere of a public green area connected with the wooden deck. The towers are designed parallel alongside the site as a response to the pre-existing condition of the site, regarding the direct sunlight, noise control, public access, etc.
